Bear Cub in Tree

A bear cub clings to a birch tree, looking out from the canvas with the mix of curiosity and wariness that young bears carry. This painting required careful study of bear anatomy and behavior — the way cubs hold themselves, the specific distribution of weight, the texture of dark fur against pale bark. A wildlife painting that is also, quietly, a painting about youth and a world encountered for the first time.
